One of the jewels of the Costa del Sol is the beautiful little village of Mijas Pueblo, which nestles gently in the mountainside at 400 meters above sea level about 7km from the coast keeping the typical charm of the white Andalusian villages. The beautiful picture of endless white houses climbing up the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas, in contrast to the deep green of the pines, offers one of the most recognizable and picturesque images of Andalucia. Equally the maze of narrow, cobbled streets dotted with white washed houses contrasted by colorful flowerpots and flowers that decorate the balconies, is an image that will remain etched in your mind for a long time.

When you wander through the narrow cobbled streets of this picture perfect Andalusian village hosting craft shops and art galleries, fine restaurants and quaint rooftop bars plus the Mayan Monkey Chocolate Factory as a hidden secret, you can understand what has attracted foreigners over the years. Visit Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña and Castillo de las Murallas to stroll through the gardens and tour the walls of an ancient castle of the fifteenth century, declared Heritage of Cultural Interest, from where the views are breathtaking. Many artists and writers have made it their home, enjoying the benefits of an excellent all-year-round climate, without being part of the busier, more commercial coastal towns.

Mijas Pueblo´s bars and restaurants feature both national and international cuisine. If you want to try a local traditional dish order salmorejo (a cold puree of tomatoes, oil and garlic served with toasted bread). A true gastronomic point of reference is Restaurante El Mirlo Blanco, famous for Basque cuisine and it´s clientele has included former Presidents and Prime Ministers. Restaurant Secret Garden offers great steaks and fish from the barbecue in their very romantic hidden garden in the heart of the village. Pampa Tablas & Tapas serves delicious tapas and home made sangria. Parking your car is really easy in the multi storey 24h garage down town Pueblo at a very visitor friendly daily rate of 1 Euro per stay.

There are so many things to do in and around Mijas: enjoy the flamenco shows, visit the miniatures museum, roam the art galleries or street market, book a city tour by electric tuk tuk, explore the gardens of the castle walls, splash the water park, play golf or go hiking the network of self-guided trails covering the Southern slope of the Sierra de Mijas.

Of the ten thousand population, there are so many foreign and English speaking residents in and around the village that the Town Hall has a very helpful Foreigner´s Department, which cater for the needs of those residents and holiday makers who do not speak Spanish.

Despite its huge popularity with tourists, Mijas Pueblo has somehow managed to retain much of its traditional Andalusian way of life behind the fortress walls of the ancient village, the locals displaying their unabashed passion for all things festive and an unmistakable relaxed outlook.

New villa project under construction. You will love this peaceful mountain retreat for your well-deserved vacation.

Work in progress. Stay tuned!
